“By the time we complete it, we will not only be fully leased but we will be turning people away,” he said of The Point II.

Sorenson isn’t alone in his optimism about the Wasatch Front’s office sector, which driven by corporate expansions seems to be in the midst of a turnaround after slumping during the downturn.

by CHRISTOPHER TUFFLEY

christophertuffley@newssuncom

LEISURE LAKES — Leisure Lakes and Lake Placid volunteer fire departments joined Division of Forestry firefighters in containing a potentially dangerous wild fire Thursday afternoon. A Forestry spotter plane and water-bearing helicopter helped in the effort.

The initial fire, and a small breakout, covered 15 acres south of Northern Boulevard, about a mile east of Henscratch Road.

While it is too early to determine what caused the fire, Melissa Yunis, information officer for the Forestry service, said current weather...

Hy-Vee is a responsible corporate citizen

Regarding Rekha Basu?s Jan. 20 column, ?20-Cent ?Theft? Leads to Firing of Disabled Worker,? wherein she takes Hy-Vee to task for the firing of a disabled employee: My immediate reaction was that Basu could not have had all the necessary information.

For the Readers of the Register to believe Basu, they will have to assume that one of the most successful corporations in the grocery industry, doing billions of dollars in sales annually, is devoid of any level of common sense.

I have volunteered extensively for two local nonprofit agencies heavily involved in helping people in our community. Both of these charities would be faced with difficult times were it not for the significant...

This week in gaming news, IGT ponies up another $500 million to secure its place as the front-runner in the American online gaming industry. There isnt an actual industry yet, but with its latest acquisition, IGT is dominating it. On the other side of the country, MGM is joining the race for a Massachusetts casino license. Its too early to pick a front-runner there, but at least theres a guaranteed prize. And Macau reminds us that it doesnt care about online poker or slots or horses or anything at all that isnt baccarat.

Congressman John Sullivan delivered the Broken Arrow citizens petition against a planned casino in Broken Arrow to the National Indian Gaming Commission on Wednesday.

Sullivan met with NIGC Chairwoman Tracie Stevens to discuss NIGCs role in determining whether the proposed Kialegee Tribal Town casino at the corner of 111th and 129th E Ave would be legally eligible for gaming.

In addition to the petition Congressman Sullivan also provided her with a DVD copy of the Broken Arrow Citizens Against Neighborhood Gaming town hall meeting on January 12, 2012 so she could see the community reaction to the casino first hand.

If youve been to Las Vegas, the nearby national parks or the Zion Outlet Malls, chances are youve encountered them: tour groups.

The large tour buses, also known as motorcoaches, arrive in our area filled with passengers from all over the world, eager to discover the Southern Utahs stunning scenery. I assume for many, that might be your only encounter with a group tour.

My first group tour experience occurred 21 years ago when I started working for a tour operator in Salt Lake City. I knew little about group travel at the time, and my official title was office manager.

Before I knew it, I was making travel arrangements for groups of people from all over Europe and Asia...
